History Timeline

  • 2011: business established and incorporated in October 2011 by Paul Taylor.
  • 2012: 
    • March - website goes live
    • End 2012 - first laser machine sold (Gemini-1 to customer in France).
  • 2013:
    • Equity investment package from Finance Wales and the Wales Business Angel Network.
    • Development of Mercury-1, Odyssey-1 and Titan-1 with attendant orders.
    • First employee recruited.
  • 2014:
    • Building and delivering on orders secured in 2013.
    • Development of Mercury-2.
    • Business now has 4 employees.
  • 2015:
    • 2nd round of equity investment from Finance Wales and Wales Business Angel Network to facilitate move from Merthyr location to 5,000 sq ft unit on Treforest Industrial Estate.
    • Launch of first standard product (Mercury-2) with break-even point reached in Q4.
    • Increase of workforce from 4 to 7.
    • Laser Wire Solutions joins Welsh Government's Business Wales Accelerated Growth Programme. This programme helps the company increase export sales by more than £1 million in the following year.
  • 2016:
    • Development of 2nd iteration of standard machine, unique to market.
    • Attracted by the above build, Schleuniger AG (a US$160 million international business in mechanical wire stripping market) becomes a partner to Laser Wire Solutions with 20% shareholder investment.
    • Launch of the Mercury-4 system - a collaborative project with Schleuniger.
    • Partnership formed with a significant multi-national customer in interconnect market.
    • Set up of wire contract stripping as a service.
    • First year of profit-taking on a £1.5 million turnover (>500% growth on 2014).
    • Total employees now number 15.
  • 2017:
    • Development and launch of Odyssey-4 for precision stripping of ultra-fine wires used in medical and high-speed data transmission devices.
    • Turnover more than trebled to £5.1 million in wake of the Odyssey-4 launch and addition of a key customer for this technology in the medical device market.
    • Staff headcount now 26.
  • End 2017 / early 2018:
    • Launch of 4 new laser wire stripping machines: two for the automotive market (Mercury-5 and Mercury-6), one for a high-speed data transmission application and a fourth for high temperature aero-engine application (Gemini-6).
  • 2018:
    • Design and manufacture of dereelers (a new technology avenue and a break from laser wire stripping) for one of our blue-chip customers.
    • Secured HM Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of the company’s contribution to International Trade.
    • Listed within the top 200 of FT1000 Europe’s Fastest Growing Companies (5th in UK manufacturing).
    • Achieved an astonishing 12th position in The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 league of fastest growing and privately owned technology companies in the UK.
    • On the Wales Fast Growth 50 shortlist for 2nd consecutive year.
