Overview

The Titan-1 is a custom design flat cable stripper for preparing micro-coax ribbon. The integrated unit takes a raw ribbonized cable, strips away the jacket, cuts the shield, cuts and cleans the dielectric leaving a cable assembly ready for termination. The unique laser process does not require any intermediate steps and the machine is capable of preparing 200 mm (8") of cables in under 3 minutes. As with our other systems the unit is simple to use, requires almost no maintenance and is flexible enough for all your laser stripping needs.

Strip Types

The Titan-1 machine is optimized for stripping micro-coax singles and ribbon cables. In the picture below the shield has been cut very close to the ribbonized jacket. The dielectric is stripped a little way underneath. The image is taken from one of the on board inspection cameras

Materials

The Titan is equipped with the same laser stripping technology found in the Mercury units and the same shield cutting technology found in the Gemini range.

Polymers

All the Mercury machines are capable of stripping polymer insulations. All polymer insulations can be cut with the laser. The amount of melt, vaporization or chemical decomposition depends on the exact polymers used. Below is a non-exhaustive list of materials that can be stripped:

Shields
 
The Titan-1 system is designed for directly stripping microcoax shields without the need for intermediate steps such as tinning the shield. The laser process relies on the underlying dielectric being able to withstand the shield cutting laser. The shield cutting laser parameters are optimized to produce the small possible amount of heat build up. The Laser Wire Solutions Titan-1 system is a unique piece of wire processing equipment, capable of processing complex micro-coax ribbons for the medical industry.

Despite a high level of complexity (4 laser sources, 3 inspection camera, 3 on-board power meters, 2 precision stages, automated slug puller) - the system is easy to use through the touchscreen interface. Process steps are created from a fixed set of options (polymer cut, shield cut, slug pull etc.) and the parameters for each step, and the step order are fully configurable. Up to 500 separate recipes are stored on-board.

The Operator simply loads the supplied fixture plate with cable and inserts the plate onto the fixture tower within the light safe guarding. The required process recipe is selected by barcode and the process started. The process is fully automated, the Operator only having to remove the finished product at the end of the cycle.

Daily calibration checks are carried out automatically by the machine and issues flagged and recorded for easy preventative maintenance.
