Big smiles all round as Laser Wire Solutions CEO Dr Paul Taylor accepts the Queen's Award for Enterprise (International Trade) on behalf of the Laser Wire team from local dignitary Lord Lieutenant for Mid Glamorgan, Dame Kate Thomas.
The award acknowledges the company's massive export achievement over the years 2014-2016, during which time the company grew at a phenomenal rate of over 149% CAGR and more than trebled its workforce.
Laser Wire Solutions is a hidden gem for the Welsh and UK economy. It started life just over 6 years ago as a two-man band business in a garage in Merthyr. Today, relocated to Treforest Industrial Estate and employing 26 staff, the company flies the Welsh flag for high tech manufacturing and engineering. Laser Wire Solutions designs and produces state-of-the-art laser products to strip the insulation from specialist high value wires and cables used in the medical, data communications, automotive and aerospace sectors.
Laser Wire Solutions’ CEO, Paul Taylor knows that achieving this accolade is down to 1) team effort and persistence; 2) thinking creatively outside the box, 3) be willing to take calculated risks and last by no means least 4) support from local government through the Accelerated Growth Programme. “We have worked tirelessly and creatively as a team to find solutions to complex wire processing challenges. Our customers appreciate that we go the extra mile for them and push the boundaries of what can be achieved with lasers. We find that we are rewarded by their loyalty and their conviction in our ability to deliver a solution that is bespoke to their needs”.
By using laser wire stripping technology medical device companies can now create far better and less intrusive medical devices that speed up post-operative recovery and save lives. In the automotive sector, the company assists vehicle producers in the manufacture of electric vehicles, by developing a damage-free solution to stripping large gauge, high voltage cables.
Laser Wire Solutions is picking up a string of accolades, including FT1000 and Fast Growth 50 recognition. It has also been nominated for a Made in Wales and Red Herring award. Moreover, the company hopes to secure a Queen’s Award for Innovation next year to celebrate the phenomenal success it’s had with its innovative laser wire stripper – the Odyssey-4 - for the medical device industry.
