Position title
Applications Development Engineer
Description

Laser Wire Solutions design and builds precision laser-based systems for demanding applications in medical and high value wire connections. We have a small, experienced applications team and we are looking for another engineer to join us.

This is a hands-on applications engineering role. You will develop and refine manufacturing processes, build and test prototypes, and turn concepts into reliable, repeatable solutions. The work spans mechanical systems, electronics, optics and software. You do not need to be an expert in all areas, but you should be comfortable moving between them.

The role sits between development engineering and sales - practical, varied, and rarely the same week twice.

What you will be doing

  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes for new and existing customers
  • Build and test prototypes to prove concepts
  • Analyse results and improve designs through practical experimentation
  • Work closely with the engineering team to deliver manufacturable solutions
  • Support customer trials and technical discussions
  • Write clear specifications, documentation and process instructions
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across engineering and manufacturing

What we are looking for

You probably have three to seven years of hands-on engineering experience and are most comfortable when you are actually solving a problem rather than talking about it. You think laterally, care about getting things right, and are steady under pressure.

We are not looking for loud personalities. We are looking for someone capable and consistent who will contribute positively to a small, collaborative team.

In terms of approach, you:

  • Get on with things quietly and effectively
  • Think practically and pay attention to detail
  • Communicate clearly and work well with others
  • Take ownership of your work and see things through

Work environment

You will work across office, lab and production areas. This is an on-site role based at LWS Headquarters - no remote working. Occasional overtime may be required for time-critical customer trials, with very rare weekend work.
