Create clean, repeatable end and window strips on fine enamel- and polyimide-coated wires used in catheters, implantables and other high-density medical devices.
Laser Wire Solutions develops non-contact stripping processes for single wires, twisted pairs and multifilar constructions, helping protect delicate conductors and prepare consistent surfaces for soldering, welding and termination.
Fine enamel wires make it possible to fit more electrical connections, sensors and conductors into increasingly compact medical devices. Their insulation is extremely thin but also tough, making it difficult to remove without affecting the conductor underneath.
On wires commonly ranging from 38 to 52 AWG, even a small surface mark, remaining insulation or variation in strip geometry can influence the subsequent connection process.
The SEM images show the condition of the conductor surface after the insulation has been removed. At high magnification, traditional methods can leave scratches, residue and an uneven surface, while the laser-stripped wire appears clean and consistent. This cleaner surface helps support more reliable soldering, welding and electrical connections
