Overview

For the optimum in productivity we offer a number of automation solutions to allow you to get the most from your Mercury laser wire stripping technology.

For some applications it is possible to take the wire straight from the spool and have it laser stripped and cut in an automatic process. This works best for single conductors.

There are two main options:

  • Reel to cut: integrate the Mercury with a Schleuniger, Komax or similar cut to length system to allow wire from a spool to be laser stripped and cut
  • Reel to reel: Laser Wire Solutions provides a total solution for dereeling, laser stripping and rereeling the wire. Perfect for extremely thin wires

In both cases, the laser can be used in the automated mode or instantly used in the standard manual mode allowing the best utilization of your investment.

Application Range

Automation is available for the Mercury-2 and Mercury-4 models. See the individual models for details

Materials

All the Mercury systems are capable of stripping polymer insulations. All polymer insulations can be cut with the laser. The amount of melt, vaporization or chemical decomposition depends on the exact polymers used. Below is a non-exhaustive list of materials that can be stripped:

  • Fluoropolymers such as PTFE, ETFE, PFA
  • Polyethylene
  • Nylons
  • Silicone
  • PVC
  • Rubber

  • Mylar
  • Fiberglass
  • Polyurethane
  • Polyester
  • Polyethylene

More Info

Integration with a cut to length system such as a Schleuniger Eco-strip requires a hot stamp interface. The cut lengths, strip positions and quantities are programmed via the cut to length system, the stripping parameters (power, speed) via the laser.

Once the cut to length system is started, the machine drives the wire through the system, stopping at the required positions for the laser strips and cuts. The wire from the stripper to the cut blade is waste for each run.

Strip length accuracies of around +/- 1 mm are readily achievable. The laser can be programmed to produce end strips, strip & slits or windows.

Laser Wire Solutions provides the integration kit including the Mercury system, interface cabling, and mounting frame. The Schleuniger / Komax equipment can be purchased directly from your local stockist for the best in local support.
