Wire Insulation Stripping


Materials

Mercury wire strippers utilize Carbon Dioxide Laser Technology. A key benefit of this laser type is that is strongly absorbed by almost all polymers and almost totally reflected by metallic conductors and shields. This makes it the perfect laser source for insulated wire stripping. Depending on the polymer insulation, the laser vaporizes or melts the insulation, allowing the slug of insulation to be pulled or peeled off.

The main type of wires that can not be stripped with the Mercury range are the polyimides such as Kapton, ML, and general enamel coatings. For these insulations see the Odyssey range.

Mercury are a range of compact bench mounted wire insulation strippers for the removal of jackets, dielectrics and general polymer insulations. Utilising robust carbon dioxide laser technology, the laser strippers gives and intrinsically high quality strip as the laser light reflects harmlessly from conductors and shields to give a nick-free strip every time.

Mercury 1

Perfect for the stripping the insulation from single conductors and jackets where the cut slug can easily pull off.

  • End cuts to cut off slug
  • 30 or 55 Watt Carbon Dioxide laser
  • Up to 4"/s (100 mm/s) strip speed for maximum productivity
  • Top and bottom of wire are stripped simultaneously - again maximising productivity
  • Manually set strip length of up to 3" (75 mm)
  • Strip length measured by digital micrometer
  • Simultaneously strip as many wires and cables as can be held on the 3" (75 mm) tooling plate
  • Suitable for stripping almost all insulation types up to       0.2" (5 mm) diameter
  • Wires and cable are placed on the tooling plate by hand and pushed up against the settable back stop. Fixture plates available on request.
  • Can be integrated with leading manufactures of measure and cut equipment (e.g. Komax, Schleuniger) to create a fully automatic laser strip and cut system
  • Fully FDA and CE compliant for use on the factor shop floor

Mercury 2

The Mercury 2 is the work horse of standard wire insulation stripping machines. Using 2 axes of optics motion, the wires can not only be stripped, but a slit can be made along the wire to make peeling off the slug easy. This is critical for the longer slugs used on cable jackets and also if a window is to be made in the jacket or wire insulation.

  • Can be integrated with leading manufactures of measure and cut equipment (e.g. Komax, Schleuniger) to create a fully automatic laser strip and cut system
  • Fully FDA and CE compliant for use on the factor shop floor
 

Mercury 3

The Mercury-3 is the highest performance of the Mercury range. By utilizing high speed, high precision scanners the bench mounted unit can not only carry out all the operations of the Mercury 1&2, but can also ablate bonded insulation. The Mercury 1&2 cut a thin line in the insulation, separating a slug of insulation from the wire. The slug must be pulled off the wire to enable termination. With Mercury 3, the system can work in the same manner but due to its high speed and precision, it can also make multiple passes over the insulation, fully vaporizing it.
